Like ‘the light in the piazza’ the morning of the first Mercato Italiano was especially bright, hot and humid; typical of a South Florida morning in what we loosely refer to as ‘autumn’.  However, that did not stop the vendors from setting up and displaying their wares on the ‘piazza’ of the Coral Gables Museum nor stop the shoppers who came to look, purchase and sample food, artwork, books, and vintage items typical of local outdoor markets in Italy.

International singing star, Patrizio Buanne also stopped by to visit the first Mercato Italiano and got ‘up close and personal’ with the Dante’s life size suit of antique armor. Buanne’s “Italian songbook” and his European approach and interpretation of international and American standards has given rise to his trademark title,  ‘the ambassador of Dolce Vita’.

If you have not already heard of him you will fall in love with Patrizio as well as his music.

And because no Italian market would be complete without food, our friends at La Cuisine Gourmet, Cibo and Liberty Caffe all joined in the fun.

To round out the day, Societa’ Dante Alighieri’s personal Chef, Francesca, demonstrated how to make pesto.
